In Gold Creek, Alberta, Lauren partnered with Ekona Power Inc. to develop a pioneering greenfield hydrogen demonstration plant, advancing carbon capture and clean energy production while strengthening Ekona’s position in the global sustainable fuels market. Managing the project from initial planning through detailed design and ongoing execution, our team optimized plot plans, conducted in-depth process analyses, and coordinated with vendors and stakeholders to integrate innovative systems under evolving timelines, delivering a high-impact facility that captures carbon and produces hydrogen at scale.

Demonstrating scalable clean hydrogen with carbon capture integration

This greenfield project establishes a state-of-the-art demonstration plant capable of producing 1000 mΒ³ per day of hydrogen and 2800 kg per day of carbon. Lauren’s expertise has driven key advancements, including detailed mechanical reviews of building equipment and optimized layouts for efficient carbon handling. Our efforts encompassed comprehensive analysis of process Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment simulations, and precise sizing, alongside proficient piping specifications that informed the detailed design of building concrete and piling. Involvement extended to architectural building design, ensuring robust integration of all systems for reliable operations in a remote setting.

Navigating innovation complexities for flawless execution

The Ekona Gold Creek Plant demanded innovative solutions to overcome the complexities of a novel demonstration facility, which Lauren navigated with precision to maintain progress. Integrating multidisciplinary engineering in a dynamic environment required agile plot plan optimization and close vendor collaboration to streamline procurement, expediting, and purchasing without delays. By developing detailed project plans, maintaining schedules, and implementing robust risk management, our team minimized inefficiencies and aligned execution with stakeholder expectations, fostering seamless momentum while upholding the highest standards of detailed design and quality.
